Vinyl re-issue of this cult band's third album pressed on coloured vinyl for the first time! The Sea and Cake are an indie-rock band with wide ranging influences from jazz slowcore post-rock and even Brazilian and African music. They formed in the early 1990s in Chicago and consist of members from the likes of Tortoise Shrimp Boat The Cocktails and Bastro. The band sit somewhere between their fellow 90s indie-rockers such as Pavement Yo La Tengo The American Analog Set and even Bedhead; yet they offer something different to them all whilst vocalist Sam Prekop comes across like the meeting point of Stephen Malkmus of Pavement and Black Francis of the Pixies. The Biz was the bands third record in just over one calendar year. On Nassau the band experimented heavily with signal processing on The Biz they continue that experimentation using less common forms of processing more sparingly. They used a Roland space echo eml 101 arp 2600 as both instruments as well as manipulators. The record continued to showcase the bands ability to mesh together their unusual blend of pop soul and jazz into one seamless output.
