Toronto’s premier boozehounds return with their second album named for the words given singer Stefan Babcock when he presented his tour-damaged vocal chords to a doctor last year: ‘the dream is over’.
In a possible bid for ‘baller of the year’ award Babcock’s largely sacked off medical advice – while his delivery here may be slightly less ragged than on the band’s debut this record’s 10 rowdy jams still sound like they’re falling over themselves to get everything out in the open. To that end we get songs with all the classic PUP themes: being a pissed-up bellend (‘DVP’) turning against your best friends (‘If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You...’) and the capriciousness of the Canadian environment (‘The Coast’) amongst others.
In summary: manic guitar music for hard-drinking losers in their mid-twenties who feel like their lives are probably going fucking nowhere.
