LIMITED EDITION TRANSPARENT ORANGE VINYL RE-ISSUE
Release Date: 28th July 2023
The Philly band's 2nd LP is a mad warped and weird record of lo-fi indie-rock music that's equal parts sad and beautiful. Pleasure Sucks straddles the line between totally fucked brutally noisy rock music and melodic psychedelic pop with songs that are so frayed at the edges it's hard to tell when one song finishes and another ends. But The Spirit Of The Beehive let enough light in through the darkness throughout the record which reminds us of American indie idols such as Grandaddy and the late-great Sparklehorse as well as UK locals such as Vincent Vocoder Voice and Toby Hayes' Eugene Quell and Shoes And Socks Off projects.
"The Spirit of the Beehive have a wide sonic palette within every song, pop rock rhythms and sweet melodies supporting dolefully sung detachment pair with atonal, crushingly heavy noise rock crafted perfectly to necessitate repeat listens The band often alter their songs live to fit the personal experience of the show itself, and such obsession with mood has proven to be one of their most prevalent strengths"
