Grizzly Bear are back with their first album in five years since 2012's Shields. It may have been sometime but this is a classic Grizzly Bear record and is arguably their most upfront and accessible. However Painted Ruins is by no means a passing breeze and as is always the case with these guys the more listens you put in - the more rewarding the record becomes with it's lushous layer-upon-layer. And for what are beautiful songs on the surface each track has it's darkness nibbling on the edges and in the underbelly as a reflection of the modern political and social times we find ourselves in.
