LIMITED EDITION TRANSLUCENT RED VINYL GATEFOLD
Release Date: 19th May 2017
Rocket is the Philadelphia-based artist Alex Giannascoli's eighth full-length release - following a bunch of self-released LP's stretching from 2010’s Race to his 2015 Domino debut Beach Music - but it is the first release to use the new moniker (Sandy) in-front of his usual stage-name of Alex G. The record highlights Giannascoli's love of country music more than ever and in particular for his love of the country-folk singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams and of course there is still a heavy dose of Elliott Smith throughout the record. But as is always the case with his records the different sounds and styles don't end there with this potentially being his most adventurous record to date. Only Alex G in the space of 3 tracks could go from sounding like psychotic piano-drone to METZ meets Death Grips to then sounding like something off of Frank Ocean's Blonde. As he sings on the latter of those tracks 'Sportscar': "I play how I want to play I sing what I want to sing." You sure do G.
