Josh Tillman aka Father John Misty is a modern day musical enigma who's 2015 LP I Love You Honeybear gained him critical-acclaim and a huge spike in admirers. With Pure Comedy he's not held back in any regard - giving us his critiques bared humanity and gently warped classic songwriting in equal measure clocking in at 75 minutes. There's not much Tillman doesn't discuss (and criticise) along the way including the themes of religion progress technology fame the environment politics ageing social media human nature human connection and his own role in it all of it. This is timeless as much as (with everything going on in the world right now in particular in the U.S.) it is timely - Tillman tells it how it is no matter how preachy he can be at times!
